Lakaan Travel was founded in 2024 by Katrin Schrimpf in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Katrin's Story: The moment I knew I can't go back to my old life.
Ten years ago – in April 2016 – I stood on the back of a pickup truck somewhere on the Oaxacan coast of Mexico, feeling that warm breeze in my face, realizing something painful:
I could not go back to the life I had built in Germany.
From the outside, everything looked fine. I had a stable corprate job, a social life, and lived in a great city, in Hamburg.
But in that moment, I felt a level of freedom that made my old life feel so empty.
One year later, I left everything behind and moved to Mexico.
That decision didn’t solve my life. But it forced me to confront who I actually was, beyond expectations, roles, and conditioning.
Since then, I’ve gone through multiple identity shifts — not small improvements, but complete reinventions of how I live, think, work, and make decisions.
This is why I do what I do today.
I don’t offer travel as an escape. I use it as a tool to interrupt patterns that keep people stuck in lives that no longer fit them.
Mexico, in particular, creates a powerful contrast for people coming from structured, control-driven environments.
It challenges how you think, relate, and navigate uncertainty.
But the experience alone is not enough.
Most people travel, feel something, and then return to the same life.
That’s why my work doesn’t end when the trip is over. I guide you through a structured integration process where insights become decisions, and decisions become real changes in your life and behaviour.
